When not one of the 16 kids that were invited to her autistic son’s birthday party showed up, this mom took to Facebook to vent. She could never have expected what happened next.
6-year-old Glenn Buratti’s mother Ashlee Buratti said she invited his entire class over for a party. The day of the party, he kept waiting and waiting for the guests to arrive, but when none showed, he was beyond devastated.
“To see the look on his face killed me inside,” Buratti told CBS News Orlando affiliate WKMG. Her son, who is autistic, was so saddened by the absence of guests, she said, that he refused to smile.
“I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son,” she wrote in a post on Facebook. “He keeps asking ‘when will my friends get here?'”
Shortly after the post, kids and parents started showing up bringing Glenn gifts, strangers posted support on Facebook, and the police even shared a special birthday treat. They did a flyover in the sheriff’s helicopter.
And it didn’t end there. More gifts kept showing up, as well as police dogs and fire trucks to wish Glenn an extra special happy birthday.
Social media saved the day, and made a heartbreaking experience turn into birthday memories to last a lifetime. For that, Buratti was pleasantly surprised and very pleased.
Unfortunately she still hasn’t heard anything from the parents of the children who did not show up.
